CE: INCURSION DETAILS ANNOUNCED!

No release date yet, but Fantasy Flight Games has posted some information about Cosmic Incursion, the first expansion for the 2008 edition of the game.

No huge surprises so far: 20 aliens and pieces for a sixth player were very much expected; reward decks and "cosmic quakes" sound pretty interesting.

Suggested retail is $24.95. That sounds about right, from what I'm seeing. Hell, that cover is worth $10 all on its own.

That is one sweet cover. Could it be Schizoid?

And, hey, it's also one of the few times I've been semi-right with a gaming prediction -- Incursion was NOT one of the "big three" mystery black boxes. There's still some hope of seeing DUNE: Dinosaur Planet before 2011.

That's true, you aren't right often.

Banned.

"This Winter"
says the new FFG banner thingy on the front page. Hopefully that means this year.

I don't see why it couldn't hit the exact same schedule that the new CE had last year.

Roughly speaking:

1. Announcement in the fall;

2. A few weeks of teasers;

3. December release.

If you look on the Upcoming page, it's listed as "At the printer." So, that's a great sign!

I'm betting the alien on the cover is Deuce... Jack's "doubly cool" comment over at BGG makes me strongly suspect it... that, and the art. Deuce is a powerhouse from the old days.

It was also a power that required significant errata... so I'm wondering how they'll word the power to prevent some of the endless rule questions.

It's funny, I'm glad the Sniveler is returning, but I'm really pulling for Prophet, and for homebrews, I'm really pulling for Jack Reda's Pisces and Envy powers - so elegant, powerful, and fun to play.

Last thought: could Magician be a renaming of Geald Katz's Conjurer? IF so, very cool - that's a good power.

Ah the speculation! Ah the tension!

FYI BigHeadZach creatively called the Incursion cover from my twitter clues last night during the Halloween Party:

So far we can confirm Sniveler, Fungus, Deuce, Locust and Magician.
I never played with Sniveler and i'm not sure if'll enjoy it.

I hope that Chronos and Filth can return in Cosmic Incursion, and a new alien with a different victory condition.

It’s funny: As soon as the expansion is announced, I’m suddenly wondering what will be in the NEXT expansion! What? When? How soon? I suppose it’s my eight-year-old excitement over multiple expansions, all flooding back to me.…

Sniveler can bite me. I'd be just as happy if my copy shipped without it.

Rob Burns said...

What's your problem with Sniveler, Duke? It was not really a problematic power like Schizoid or Force, nor was it a heavily annoying power like Diplomat...

TheDukester said...

Sniveler used to encourage too much ... let's call it "role-playing" ... in my experience. Probably because I used to play with a group of idiots.

Actually, I'm glad it's in there, just for the sake of getting all of the "classics" eventually re-printed. But for me, personally, it will not see the table.

Hmmm ... idea for a short post just occurred to me.

Sniveler does bring out the whiner in whoever plays it, that's for sure.

I do, however, look forward to getting as many of the classics as possible. I know some are not likely to see the light of day anytime soon.... though if an app like Strange Eons is made for CE, it will be easy to get those screwy powers into the game.

Big Head Zach said...

Now if Strange Eons could also have templates for the various card types, we'd really be in good shape...but somehow I doubt that, especially if they aren't going to ever sell their card sleeves with opaque (non-transparent) backs, for easy homebrewing.

PML10 said...

A program like Strange Eons for Cosmic would be great. I would pay for that.

Regarding Incursion, it seems that the Cosmic Quakes are nothing more than the rule avaliable in the FAQ.

The Warp said...

You are correct. It's the Rifts you have to watch out for.

Duke..Duke...Duke. The Sniveler is the essence of Cosmic. Come on now aren't you tired of powers that whoopie..add 3 points...lose three points..steal 3 points...hide 3 points. If you see my point. Aliens need to get outside the point box, (he said pointedly). When the player has room to make the power come alive then the game hurdles off into the unfair unknown.
