Duh.
I totally forgot to mention this part in my excitement over yesterday's super-cool new alien: the rules for Cosmic Incursion are available at Fantasy Flight's CE support page.
I'm not sure why they sort of buried the news at the bottom of an alien preview, but, still, the important thing is that they are out there and available for immediate download.

And the great riddle has been solved: Player color 6? Neon Orange!
I’m curious how they’re going to do colors 7 and 8. If they match the colors on the cards, they’ll be magenta and indigo, which might cause some problems. What about gold and silver, like the classic game?
Maybe they'll do a metallic looking magenta and indigo, or speckled with sworls and stuff. :)
Player 9: pink with purple polk-dots.
If it were me, players 7 and 8 would be cyan/turquoise and pink/magenta, with 9 and 10 being black and white.
If it were me, the 7th and 8th colors would be invisible. One go around the table is already borderline too long with six players, though it doesn't help that most, if not all, of my six-player games so far have involved multiple inexperienced players.
Yeah, gotta agree. This whole "add more players!" thing has always been a complete mystery to me. The sweet spot for CE seems so clearly to be four or five players; adding anything beyond that is just an exercise in downtime and (potential) chaos.
I figured the color had to be orange, just to go along with the later printings of the Eon expansions (gold and silver were replaced by purple and orange, and purple was of course in the base FFG set). If they go to 7 or 8, I too would like to see metallic gold and silver come in.
The thing I noted in the rules, though, is that the Destiny Hazards didn't appear in the rules! That gives us at least one thing to look for in the next expansion! :)
More colors and more ships doesn't necessarily mean more players. And you squirrels that don't like more than 4 players are missing out on some good times. The game I had the absolute most fun playing (other than the time I played with strippers and won) was a 12 player game. It was CE at its best.
What else would more colors be for but more players? The rules say they're for a sixth player.
Extra colours could be useful for Symbiote, Eject, and other aliens that use two sets of ships.
I agree with Toomai.
Even if the utility of a 7th and 8th player set is debatable, the inclusion of a set or two of “neutral ships” would allow Symbiote and other aliens, as well as other variants.
Ahh, thanks for clearing that up. That comment confused me. I'd forgotten about Symbiote. I played with it once but had to use tokens from another board game.
So no Destiny Hazards yet. Does anyone think they’ll ever do the Warp/Praw and reverse cone, or are we way past that now?
Andy:
1. Good call on the Hazards. As they are specifically mentioned in the original rulebook, I like to think that there's proof that more expansions are on the way;
2. Gut feeling: I can easily see FFG doing a reverse cone ... I have a harder time picturing the Praw. Just my opinion, based on nothing but a hunch.
I really miss the reverse cone in this edition. The first thing I did when I opened the FFG box was look at both sides of the cone...er...gate. No reverse made me sad, so I hope something like it shows up in the next expansion.
I am all for adding more player colors, if only to give people more choices! I haven't played a live game of CE with more than 4 players in many years, but I have one friend who always plays red, and one who always plays purple or black. It's nice for folks with favorite colors to have those in the game.
There's a great Gerald Katz alien called Praw, which is a great way to add that variant into a game, and still make good use of it for an alien. This also falls into the camp of alien that doesn't rely on an expansion or variant- it creates one!
Jefferson's point is similar to mine ... not only do some players prefer a certain color, but there are also colors a group tends to avoid. (Nobody in my house wants yellow f'rinstance. Once I have the orange set, I can basically retire 97% of the yellow components and just use one of the ships as The Prometheus.)
